It’s a gift for those of us struggling through the transition and working to develop a sense of self and purpose that is not defined by what we’ve achieve professionally.
This is a great modern interpretation of the life stages we can choose to go thru. We don't have to wait for 60 to put this into practice. I decided to make my life crossing from doer to giver at the age of 42 at the peak of my career.
It has been an interesting journey to practice inter growth at a younger age than my peers. I enjoy being defined less by what I do and more by who I help but it is not easy to explain in the circles I am in where everyone is still focused on achievement and being defined by their title. Thanks for sharing this wisdom.
Hi Mohan. I have been reading your substack a few months now and love it. As a sikh, the references hold a lot of meaning and years of relevance.
I'm 49 and find these questions equally relevant for me now as I'm sure you find them at the cusp of 60. Why should they not be held earlier to live a life of value where I am but a conduit?
Another good one, Mohan. I've forwarded it to several of us who are at the threshold. A great piece of writing provokes you to think differently — and you managed to do that while also making it simple.
One of the most profound and relatable article I have ever read. Kudos to you. May you be always in Chardikala!
