In the face of all gloomy articles about how AI will change your future, this is a just a refreshing take on the First Principles which are timeless and enduring. Thank you Professor Mohanbir!
This really reframes what “endures' means. It’s not just outcomes or success, but the mindset and intent behind how we build and live. Thoughtful piece, Sir.
Not sure how many 30-year-olds can truly appreciate the wisdom poured into this article. Some things only land after you've lived enough. Bronnie Ware's insights have stayed with me for years --one of those rare reads that quietly shapes how you choose to live, not just how you work. this one is bookmarked.. thank you professor.
What a brilliantly put piece - like always by you Prof Sawhney. The clear analogical distinction between what matters (enduring) and what not (ephemeral) and link back to our scriptures by making the connection so obvious, is transcendental knowledge.
I've read/heard mool mantra millions of times, and now started to see the compounded wisdom underneath. Thanks.
Will you be kind enough to share the detailed notes (6000 words) on the 5 Moats with me. My email id is g_venkatramana@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance for your generosity. I am grateful.
Wonderful to read about focusing one's energy on the durable. It carries lessons for everyone: from folks starting their career to people like me who have retired from a successful professional career and now starting working afresh with much younger people in early stage companies. Thank you Prof Mohan Sawhney.
Hello Mohan, loved reading this article, brings soo much peace. See past the river of passing events to the thing that does not pass. I would like to receive a copy of companion course reading that goes deeper on moats. How do I get that? Regards, Kumar
To understand perishable, one must have self awareness to reflect in the moment on durable, on important not urgent despite the tornado of living. Today, it feels more challenging and ever more important, whether at 30yo (post MBA) or ..60 or (..gulp) 80. Great thoughts Mohan to discuss, better than alone, with a friend today. It was a Thursday.
Mohan, after 25+ years of knowing you, this is another excellent example of the thoughtful perspective and intellectual depth you consistently bring to complex topics.
Your distinction between the “heat and dust” of the moment and the enduring foundations underneath really resonated with me, especially in today’s environment where everyone is chasing the next framework, title, or technology shift.
I especially appreciated the celestial navigation reference to the United States Naval Academy, my alma mater. Technology changes. Tools evolve. But the need for orientation, judgment, trust, and leadership under uncertainty endures.
Enduring lessons here! My fav was listen to the silence among the screams 👏
This is a master class on what is durable - and thus how to think about a lasting business impact in the face of 30-day product cycles!!
Must-read for anyone, but especially founders of companies coming of age right now.
As the founder and CEO of a software start-up, I found this to be an optimistic view of the future.
Thanks for sharing and congrats on your amazing career teaching.

Would love to read the five moats in detail.

Absolutely profound. Thank you!
